‘I don’t know how’

it’s a circle

it’s a line

it’s a basket as old as time

holding us

holding you

sure you do

When We Are Alive Our Eyes Shine
(that age old riddle)

'a brave and startling' nest
seen out of the corner of my very own eye
tangled in the shadows
past the narrows
weaving in and out of marsh
coiling through silk threads
and other depths
we often find intriguing

where has she gone?
Mother's skin has been left behind

that fellow flesh eater
feral and midnight rough

did she slither over the smoking embers
of the july road
or spiral launch right into the sky
with nothing left
buoyed by the magic of her own grace?
